Chief responsibility; Plan, open, and coordinate the NASA/JPL/CMSI Satellite Teaching Resource Center, which was located at the California Museum of Science and Industry, Los Angeles, California.
Responsible for the day to day operations of the Satellite Teaching Resource Center, including;
- Assisting teachers when they come to the Satellite Teaching Resource Center. This includes making sure the teacher leaves the center with grade, and topic appropriate material.
- Conduct teacher workshops (Internet Training, Moon rock certifications, etc.).
- Previewing new NASA / JPL video tapes for possible inclusion into the STRC educational tape collection and distribution system.
- Copy / distribute video tapes for educator use.
- Answer technical telephone calls (formerly, technical mail as well).
- Interface with all JPL employees connected with installation, maintenance and repair of JPL property at the STRC.
- Interface with JPL, NASA Headquarters, NASA Core, and other NASA centers for educational resource availability and reports.
- Developed the Management and Emergency Plans for STRC.
Other major responsibilities;
- Primary responsibility for the planning, implementation and day to day operation of NEWMAST / NEWEST (NASA Educational Workshop For Math, Science, and Technology Teachers / NASA Educational Workshop for Elementary School Teachers).
- Attended NEWMAST 1 as a teacher participant, and assisted in NEWMAST 2, before taking over the program. This program is now in its 13 year.
- Act as a JPL tour guide, as needed.
- JPL judge at local school science fairs, as needed.
- Assist with extended hours at the Satellite Teaching Resource Center, as needed.
- Help with public mail, as needed.
- Attend the national Teaching Resource Center Network annual meeting.
- Attend the NEWMAST / NEWEST annual meetings in Washington, D.C.
November 1990 to 1994 Coordinator, NASA / JPL Teaching Resource Center .
Responsible for the day to day operations of the Teaching Resource Center, including all of the responsibilities listed in the STRC section above.
- Shared the primary responsibility for the day to day operations, planning and implementation of the year long Comfortable Approach to Teaching Science (CATS) NSF grant program, in 1991, and assisted with the program ever other year of its existence.
- Assisted in planning and conducting the Voyager Neptune Encounter Educators Conference, the Magellan Educators Launch Conference, in Orlando, Florida, the Galileo Educators Launch Conference, in Coco Beach, Florida, and the Magellan Venus Science Educators Science Briefing.
- Assisted in conducting two, week-long workshops for the Navajo Nation and the Zuni Pueblo, including the installation of an amateur radio station.
- Assisted in conducting the JPL (week long) effort at the National Science Teachers Association, National Convention in Houston, Texas (1991) and Kansas City, Mo. (1993).
- Developed educational materials for JPL projects (e.g. material in support of the Voyager Neptune Encounter, the Galileo and Ulysses launch conferences).
- Developed task plan for the TRC Summer Teacher.
- Given numerous public and educator talks, about JPLs Educational Outreach activities.
- Member of the JPL Emergency Communication Team (on Amateur Radio).
- Developed and ran the JPL Educators Career Net (this involved school children interviewing JPL scientists and engineers on Amateur Radio).
- Coordinated JPLs PAO effort with the JPL Amateur Radio Club, in sending out more than 4000 litho sets to amateur radio operators who contacted the special event station at JPL during the Neptune encounter.
- Designated property manager for Public Education Office.
