Ray was born in Crystal Lake, Algonquin Township, McHenry County, Illinois in 1879. He was a twin to his brother, Roy.
He grew up with his parents and siblings in Illinois and Nebraska.
In the U.S. census taken in June of 1900 he was living and working in the Ray Charles household in Herrick Precinct, Knox County, Nebraska.
In 1902 He married his wife, Etta. Etta was born in Minnesota in 1884.
By 1903, at the time of the birth of their first child, they were in Nebraska.
The 1910 census shows them in Coffeyville, Kansas.
By 1927 the family was known to be living in Wichita, Kansas.
Ray was a fireman.
The time of his death is presently unknown, but he is known to have been buried at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, Montgomery County, Kansas.
Ray and Etta had the following children:
1. Helen KNOX was born in Nebraska in 1902.
2. Mable KNOX was born in Nebraska in 1903.
