Jacob (Jon Jacob) RUGH Jr. was born in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania on August 12, 1784.

He was baptized on November 20, 1784 in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County by Rev. Johann Wilhelm Weber. Sponsors were his grandparents, Deobald and Sibilla Mechlin.

He was raised on the farm of his father, Jacob Sr. in Westmoreland County. This farmland was part of the original Michael Rugh homestead located just to the south of present day Greensburg. In adulthood, he remained to operate the family farm there.

In 1825 he was on a property tax list in Hempfield Township. The 1850 Federal Census taken in Hempfield Township shows him having land worth five thousand dollars.

He was a member of The First Lutheran Church of Greensburg.

About 1810 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania he married Betsy (Elizabeth Louise) KEPPEL (KEPPLE). Betsy (Elizabeth Louise) KEPPEL (KEPPLE) was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania on April 26, 1789. Records show that on April 21, 1805 (at age 16) she was confirmed at Greensburg Lutheran Church in Greensburg. She was the daughter of Michael (John Michael) KEPPEL (KEPPLE) and Anna Dorothea YEARYAN.

Betsy died on May 28, 1880 at age 91 in Hempfield Township. She was buried at the Old German Cemetery in Greensburg Pennsylvania.

Jacob died on July 29, 1869 at age 85 in Hempfield Township. He was originally buried at the Old German Cemetery in Greensburg Pennsylvania. He was later moved to Hillview Cemetery in South Greensburg.

Jacob and Betsy had the following children:

1. Mary (Anna Maria Magdalena) RUGH was born on July 2, 1811 and died in March, 1892.

2. Adam RUGH was born on December 23, 1813 and died on October 27, 1897.

3. Jacob RUGH (III) was born in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania on April 21, 1816. He was baptized on May 14, 1816 in Greensburg at the Greensburg Lutheran Church. In adulthood he spent his life farming within Westmoreland County. He died on April 15, 1888 in Greensburg. In 1874 he married Cordelia WALTHOUR. Cordelia WALTHOUR was born on May 4, 1834. She died on April 19, 1910 in Greensburg, Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

6. Anna Elizabeth RUGH was born in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania on March 18, 1822. She was baptized on May 19, 1822 in Greensburg at the First Lutheran Church. Baptismal sponsors were her parents. About 1842 in Pennsylvania she married Peter BRADLEY. Peter BRADLEY was born in Pennsylvania about 1819.

7. Dorothea RUGH was born in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania on April 23, 1827. She was baptized on July 8, 1827 in Greensburg at the First Lutheran Church. Baptismal sponsors were her parents.

8. George (Eli George) RUGH was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania in 1827. On August 13, 1850 he appears in the U.S. Census as a Blacksmith in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. On October 12, 1848 in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania he married Mary Magdalena KUNKLE. Mary Magdalena KUNKLE was born about 1830.

9. Sybilla RUGH was born in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania on July 17, 1829. She was baptized on September 6, 1829 in Greensburg at the First Lutheran Church. Baptismal sponsors were her parents. On February 24, 1852 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania she married Samuel RUFF. Samuel Ruff was born on March 28, 1825. Samuel was a wealthy farmer and landowner within Westmoreland County. He was the son of John Ruff and Rebecca Albright.

10. Hannah Lavina RUGH was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania in 1832. March 14, 1854 in Greensburg, Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania she married Henry PEIFER at The First Ev. Lutheran Church. Henry PEIFER was born about 1830. He is the son of George PEIFER.
