The Right Way to Communicate
A newsletter effectively provides information about your company. It communicates
in an informal, easy-to-read style and doesn't require great literary skill
to write. However, a few basic guidelines need to be followed.
First, keep it brief--aim for a maximum of 500 words per page. Also, use
strong nouns and active verbs to hold the readers interest. And write in
third person to establish an authoritative tone.
After writing, you might need professional design and printing. That's where
PIP comes in.
Master Runs: To save you time and money, PIP can print your logo
or masthead on multiple sheets and store them for future use, dropping in
new text when needed.
Columns: Studies show narrow columns (65 characters per line maximum)
are read easiest and fastest. Most newsletters are set two or three columns
to the page.
Photography: Whether in color or black-and-white, photos add interest
and a personal touch
Graphic Design: Each page should be approximately 2/3 copy and 1/3
graphics to visually reinforce your words.
Masthead: This is the selected name of your newsletter. The most
effective titles employ a word or two that will identify your industry --
for example, "Stockline" or "Graphic Views"
Paper Stock: The proper stock reflects the right image for your company.
Subheads: Column headings printed in an additional color help maintain
interest and keep the reader's eye tracking.
Electronic Storage: Your originals are in our electronic files &
archived to our tape back-up system, making revisions and updates easier.
Binding And Finishing: Your documents aren't complete until you choose
the right binding and finishing. We'll help you decide whether to saddle
stitch your newsletter or drill them for binder storage.
