Updates! 5-05-2009Thanks to all who stopped by my table at SPACE in Columbus, Ohio. It was a great show, my best one there, in fact. Paul Schultz and I had a great time discussing how to write action sequences with Tom Scioli at our panel on Saturday. There was good turn-out and everyone on our end cap did well there.I'll be attending the Motor City Comic Con on May 17th in Novi, Michigan. Let me know if you're going to be there. The next show where I'll be selling books will be GlamourCon Chicago August 15-16th. If all goes well, I'll have at least four new books there, all of which will star models who will either be at the show or have attended the show in years past. I've updated the Titles page with new information on some of the projects I'm hammering out right now. I've also added a nice review of Agent Z #1 from ComicRelated.com. Check out my blog for continuous updates on various projects. There's also some new Salem, AZ art on my Comicspace page and my Myspace page has a gallery of SPACE photos. If you are a penciller, inker, and/ or colorist, please feel free to check out the "Future titles from Pickle Press" part of the Titles page for job opportunities with Pickle Press. I will post the current state of various projects that need drawn, inked, and/or colored. If you're looking for work with Pickle Press, that will be the place to find it. Please let me know if you'd like to be on the Pickle Press e-mailing list to receive updates about my projects. My blog has at least bi-weekly updates of how my various projects are rolling along, and my Comicspace page has a lot of artwork there. I will be posting all new artwork from my books there, and convention photographs are now on my Myspace page. You can use this page to get to all of those links and to find out about my various published works and the people with whom I have created these things. I hope you will continue to support Pickle Press and indie comics. Who is Pickle Press?Pickle Press is a small, one-man publishing company that specializes in comic books and graphic novels. Pickle Press creates and publishes several types of comic books, mostly in black and white, and may move into short story collections sometime in the next few years. Pickle Press pledges to print fresh ideas and not just rehashed versions of someone else's work. There are far too many "cookie cutter" comics these days, and Pickle Press strives to keep its books outside the norm. Nik's CommitmentI have been writing short fiction for twenty-two years, and collecting comic books for twenty of them. I am not looking to make a lot of money. I want to tell well-crafted stories. I have too many ideas in my journals, file cabinet drawers, and the limited space in my brain. I get new ideas every week. I need to get the old ones out to make room for the new. I hope you'll enjoy the stories I've crafted, many of which are partially based on true events. ProductsPickle Press offers comic books written in several formats: suspense, horror, fantasy, adult, science fiction, and even western books. Most of these books have 24 interior pages and are printed in black and white, with either black and white, grayscale, or color covers. There are continuing storylines as well as "done-in-one" stories that take place within one issue. Pickle Press will also offer posters of the characters featured in the books, special art books, charity books, and other promotional items such as T-shirts, buttons, trading cards and (maybe sometime down the road) action figures. Current DemandThere is already a high local demand for Pickle Press' publications. Rocket Girl has been talked about in The Goshen News, The Elkhart Truth, The Kendallville News-Sun, The Auburn Evening Star, and also in a WSBT channel 22 news story that is available by Quicktime video (9784 KB MPEG). Big Breasted Vampire Death was so popular that fans demanded a reprint. ConventionsPickle Press sets up in booths and/or at tables at many comic book and pop culture conventions across the country each year to actively sell and promote Pickle Press books. These conventions are also gathering places for other small press publishers and established professionals. The conventions are always fun and you get to meet all kinds of wild people, so please stop by the Pickle Press table and say hello! Nik's "Top 5" conventions are: Nik's Comic Book Publishing PhilosophyPickle Press is not rigid in its publishing. Sequential art is a wonderfully adaptable form, and Pickle Press will be a very "live" company that will not become mired in one writing style or genre. Pickle Press will strive to produce a diverse line of reading material and create well-crafted stories with great art.
