I read all kinds of things from trash to classics. Love Charles Dickens. Hated him when I had to read him, but now... I find him wonderfully funny! If you haven't read any Robertson Davies you are in for a real treat. Try the Depthford Trilogy. Also, I love Nabakov's Pale Fire. It's construction is amazing to me! Others: John Brown's Body by Steven Vincent Benet, Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury. There is a little series of mystery books that I enjoy. They are The Mrs. Pollifax mysteries by Dorothy Gilman . For some reason, they make me feel very comfortable. I must also mention Kurt Vonnegut Jr.: For about 6 years, all my Christmas cards had Vonnegut quotes on them: (from GOD BLESS YOU, MR. ROSEWATER )"It seems to me the lesson to be learned is that people can use all the unconditional love they can get!" I am embarassed to admit this next auther: Clive Cussler! His books are such trash, but, he really knows how to keep a story moving. There's a lot more but this is enough for now...
Here are a couple links for you to get books. I have heard they are cheaper here than going out to a book store! Haven't tried them myself but plan to!
