Ouch
I like to title this "Time to Check the Workers Comp Policy."
I got this off of Yahoo photos. The lady is track and field line judge Lia Mara Lourenco from Brazil. Its
an AP photo. Someone didn't bother to tell her that those sticks have sharp ends.

SNOW!
First - it snowed this week. Its too early for snow. Granted, it snowed above 7,000 feet, but it still snowed.
Its a month too early for this.
Second - Purdue football team won. I'm impressed. I also noted that before this game against the Gophers
the defense was about 100 out of 119 Division 1 teams. Yikes. Can't wait for ND next weekend.
Third - look, a counter. I'm starting to get into this blogging thing.
Fourth - I'm working on getting the video of the 2005 Fourth of July bottle rocket bonanza. Hopefully it will work.

SLC Burns - Part 2
It would appear that one of the canyons on the other side of the valley is burning. I didn't think we were that
dry here, especially considering the weather last weekend. We got a lot of rain, some hail, and snow above 7,000 feet.
But there it is, a lot of smoke and the local news helicopter doing endless circles so we can watch the same thing over and
over again on TV. Crazy.
So here is something interesting. The fire is on the Oquirrh Mountains, pronounced like oak-er'. For whatever
reason, the settlers that came here in the 1800's didn't really know how to spell what they were saying. Just like Tooele
county. It is pronounced like 'two-will-a'. Sure, some may blame the indian tribes that lived here for the names,
but I'm pretty sure that is an excuss for poor education standards.
The fire is also next to the Kennecott copper mine. It is one of the biggest open pit mines in the world - 2 1/2 miles
across and 3/4 mile deep. It can be seen from space. So, don't ever say that Utah doesn't have something that can't
be seen from space. Take that China!

The Most Wonder Time of the Year
The world of college football is so odd.
If you aren’t ranked before the season starts, your odds of making it into the championship game at the end of
the year is just about impossible, no matter what your record is or who you beat. Maybe
if the team is one of the traditional power houses, like Oklahoma, then just maybe they could make it. But it would be difficult.
Being a Purdue fan is difficult. Suffering
through 13 seasons of teams that were just bad was enough to make most fans forget that Purdue had a football team. It didn’t help that the basketball team was pretty good. We
got football tickets just so we could get better basketball seats (Purdue is on a point system for student tickets – no first
come, first serve). Then Tiller comes along and the team has a winning season
in 1998 and goes to a bowl game. Then a few years later we go to a New Years
Day bowl game. It was amazing times – everyone started following the team. The next year the team is playing in the Rose Bowl.
Well, it seems like the programs has been going downhill since then. The
team isn’t as bad as the pre-1998 years, but after a Rose Bowl appearance, fans get a taste for success and expect it to last. No luck.
To make matters worse, last week a friend of mine came up and told me they
were sorry about the outcome of the Purdue game. Huh? I told them Purdue won (granted, they played a much lesser program).
“Oh? They didn’t play Notre Dame?”
No. That was Penn
State that rolled over and played dead for ND. “Oh – I knew it was a ‘P’ team. I assumed it was Purdue since Notre
Dame won by so much.” Ouch. This typifies most Notre Dame fans in
the country: quick to rub it in your face, not able to take the jabs when their team looses (thank you Big Blue), and didn’t
attend the school. That’s right. I
know a decent number of people here in Utah that say they
are Notre Dame fans, but never attended the school. Some don’t even have relatives
that attended the school.
If you are a college football fan, you should be a fan of your alma mater first
(if you went to college) and another school a far second. For me, it’s Purdue
first, Utah second.
I follow Missouri because both my parents went there
and the Tigers are very similar to Purdue from a sports perspective. College
football is great. I love this time of year.
But if you are going to be a fan, get off the bandwagon and be a fan. That
means there are going to be years your team is going to suck and you are going to be disappointed. Unless you are a USC fan. (Yes, Flinn, you are allowed to be
a USC fan, but you better be wearing gold and black.)

Lets Try This Again
Okay - so I'm bad about putting anything up on this thing. Sorry. The problem is, I have a life. Not
only that, I usually don't have anything worth putting up on a daily basis. So there you go.
But, I've got this: Another FDA warning. I know - you're getting sick of these. This is part of my job, so
I find it interesting. I find it interesting that people would take both ibuprofen and aspirin together, but I don't
have arthritis and a bad heart either. And just to make it more interesting - if aspirin were to go before the FDA as
a new drug today, odds are it wouldn't get approved because of the side effect profile.
"FDA notified consumers and healthcare professionals that taking ibuprofen for pain relief
and aspirin at the same time may interfere with the benefits of aspirin taken for the heart. Ibuprofen can interfere
with the anti-platelet effect of low dose aspirin (81 mg per day), that may render aspirin less effective when used for cardioprotection
and stroke prevention.
Although it is all right to use ibuprofen and aspirin together, FDA recommends that
consumers contact their healthcare professional for more information on the timing of when to take these two medicines, so
that both medicines can be effective."

Not a good Blogger
So I've gotten some comments about how I don't put enough up here or that I don't post every day. Well, sorry.
I have a life and don't have the time to constantly put my thoughts here. I also haven't put up a comment board yet
because I'm lazy. Also, I may not need your feedback. I'll get something up sooner or later.
Here's some interesting news:
FDA WARNS AGAINST CERTAIN ONLINE DRUG RETAILERS The FDA has issued a warning to consumers
not to buy or use prescription drugs from several Canadian websites that are reportedly selling counterfeit drugs.
The retailers have their orders filled by Mediplan Prescription Plus Pharmacy or Mediplan Global
Health, and there have been "reports of counterfeit versions of prescription drug products being sold by these companies,"
according to the FDA.
The agency said that preliminary lab results show that these websites are selling counterfeits
of several popular prescription drugs: Lipitor, Diovan, Actonel, Nexium, Hyzaar, Ezetrol (known as Zetia in the U.S.), Crestor,
Celebrex, Arimidex and Propecia.
The FDA said it generally recommends that consumers use caution when buying drugs online. Although
a website may appear reputable and similar to legitimate retail pharmacy websites, many actually operate from outside the
U.S. and provide unapproved drugs from unreliable sources.
For more information and a list of websites the FDA says are operated by, or have orders filled
through, Mediplan, see www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/NEWS/2006/NEW01441.html.
