Chamber Music STUDIES

 

Who should apply?

Any string player, age 18 or older who wishes to have chamber music coaching as their primary focus. Pre-formed ensembles are especially encouraged to apply.

Individuals are also welcome.

How to apply

Send in the attached application by May 15, 2010.  Pre-formed groups and returning participants are not required to audition. Placement audition required for new individuals. Record five minutes of current repertoire or request live audition.

 

Curriculum

Chamber Music Study

Intensive daily coachings with faculty and rehearsal time. Groups study one or two movements in depth and perform in the final concert. Separate time scheduled for free reading.

Chamber Music Master Class

“Open” coaching allows for trial performances and a shared learning experience among groups.

Master Classes

Perform a finished piece or learn by observing.

Aronoff Seminars

Aronoff approach to the craft of playing. Applicable to viola, violin and cello.

Violin, Viola and Cello Seminars

Technical and interpretive subjects with instrument-appropriate faculty.

Special Topics

New each year; non-playing classes that provide a break from the instrument.

Informal Recitals

Performance opportunities throughout the week.

Final Concert, Thursday, July 1st

Formal conclusion of Festival; all groups perform.

 

VIOLA INTENSIVE STUDIES

 

Who should apply?

Any violist age 18 or older who wishes an individualized study experience—aspiring professionals, teachers, or adults who want to refresh skills and learn new ones outside of the context of a chamber group.

How to apply

Curriculum

Aronoff Viola Seminars

Aronoff approach to the craft of playing through the study of technical methods and excerpts from chamber music and solo repertoire. Detailed exploration of issues such as tone, shifting, vibrato, finger strength, flexibility, etc...

Individual or Group Instruction and Practice Time

A continuation of the work from Aronoff Seminars with faculty guidance. Individual repertoire and questions about playing issues can be explored in private and group instruction sessions.

Audition Preparation

For graduate school or orchestral auditions, time will be assigned one on one with a faculty member.

Master Classes
