Pre-College
CURRICULUM Five-day residential or commuter program June 27-July
1, 2010 Who should apply? Serious, advanced
violists; enthusiastic, intermediate violists; violinists interested in
learning viola. (age 14 through 2010 HS
graduation). How to apply Send in
the attached application by May 15, 2010. Placement audition required for new
participants only. Record five minutes of current repertoire or request live
audition. Curriculum Aronoff Viola Seminars Aronoff approach to the craft of
playing through the study of technical methods and excerpts from chamber
music and solo repertoire. Detailed exploration of issues such as tone,
shifting, vibrato, finger strength, flexibility, etc... Viola Chamber Music All groups coached; perform July
1st. Orchestral Literature Instruction and mock auditions. Master Classes Perform a finished piece or
learn by observing. Special Topics New each year; non-playing
classes that provide a break from the instrument. Final Concert, Thursday, July
1st Formal conclusion of Festival;
all groups perform. Optional Friendly Competition Prepare a work of 3-5 min. for
possible solo 7/2 Private Lesson Request a lesson with available
viola faculty. Informal Recitals Performance opportunities
throughout the week. |
YOUNG VIOLISTS DAY-STUDY
CURRICULUM Three-day commuter program for violists
under age 14 Mon, Tues,
Wed—June 28-June 30, 2010 Classes meet
at from 2:00-4:00
p.m. Who should apply? Violists under age 14
with at least one year playing experience How to apply Send in
the attached application by May 15, 2010. Audition required. Record five
minutes of current repertoire or request live audition. Curriculum Aronoff Viola Seminars Aronoff approach to the craft of
playing. Detailed exploration of issues such as tone, shifting, vibrato,
finger strength, flexibility, etc... in a master class format. Viola Choir Coaching for special performance
on July 1st Scale and Etude Class Group instruction in these
important basics. Special Topic Especially designed for our
young violists. Young Violists’ Concert,
Wednesday, June 30th, 4:00 p.m. Selected solos and the viola
choir highlight the talents of our young violists. Open to parents, families and all
Festival personnel. Parents’ Information Parents
are welcome to sit in on all classes in this program. All young violists will
receive a family pass to attend the Aronoff Chamber Music Concerts, June
27-June 30, 7:30 p.m. at no charge. Parents and students may
