First Parish in Concord was featured in a December 7, 2008 Boston Globe article titled "Green Mission: Churches under renovation using methods that are environmentally friendly". The article highlighted the following environmentally friendly changes in the construction project:

New floors made of linseed oil and jute, and carpeting made of high recycled content
Exterior siding made of natural, sustainably harvested, cedar wood
Separate ventilation system monitoring CO2 level that varies supply of fresh air to meet real-time interior air quality needs and conserve energy
Multiple, separate temperature zones to better conserve energy
Low-flush toilets and low-flow faucets in sinks
High-efficiency light fixtures
Argon-filled windows, with double-pane insulating glass and low-emissivity coating
New drainage system redirected into new subsurface drainage chambers instead of directly running off into Mill Brook
