Green Mission
First Parish in Concord was featured in a December 7, 2008 Boston Globe article titled "Green Mission: Churches under renovation using methods that are environmentally friendly". The article highlighted the following environmentally friendly changes in the construction project:
- New floors made of linseed oil and jute, and carpeting made of high recycled content
- Exterior siding made of natural, sustainably harvested, cedar wood
- Separate ventilation system monitoring CO2 level that varies supply of fresh air to meet real-time interior air quality needs and conserve energy
- Multiple, separate temperature zones to better conserve energy
- Low-flush toilets and low-flow faucets in sinks
- High-efficiency light fixtures
- Argon-filled windows, with double-pane insulating glass and low-emissivity coating
- New drainage system redirected into new subsurface drainage chambers instead of directly running off into Mill Brook
