There
are two Midgley villages in the West Riding of Yorkshire.
One Midgley village is in the District
of Calderdale, east of Hebden Bridge, near Halifax and was known
as "Mygeley" in 1725. The name appears in the Domesday Book as Micleie
and means large pasture or a clearing with midges

The other Midgley village is near
Wakefield

In 1822, the village of Midgley,
near Halifax had a population of 2,207 and by 1871 the population had increased
to 3,065 and there were two Midgley hamlets near Wakefield:
Nether Midgley and Over Midgley both in the parish of Thornhill and
6 miles from Wakefield.
Today there is a
Midgley Lodge
Motel in the Midgley near Wakefield.
There is a "Midgley
