Switching the Fruit Packing Plant

Bernie Kempinski took this picture showing my Columbia & Okanogan Railway GP 35 No. 51 and U25B No. 23 as they switch the packing plant at Ribbon Cliff Orchards. The structure is a Heljan kit. The AXXA trailer and tractor arriving at the packing plant are Bernie's finely painted and weathered models (remember this is N scale!). Bernie was involved in miniatures wargaming before model railroading and you can see the techniques he learned there applied here.

The photo is slightly rotated to the right. Thus the cliff appears rather steeper than it is. The best viewing angle for the cliffs are from the front where the foreshortening required to model the scene is not as apparent. Clearly, when viewed from the ends, looking along the tracks, the cliffs and more notably the talus slopes appear rather oversteepened.
