Return to Ribbon Cliff Page
Bernie Kempinski and Charles Greenacre, fellow Northern Virginia NTrak members, set up this surprise shot with Charles' Great Northern Mikado rolling south past Ribbon Cliff Orchard with a train full of Okanogan Valley fruit. This was the heyday of fruit-by-rail in the upper Columbia and Okanogan valleys.
Behind the train on the left is a small fruit packing house. A single-ended spur serves the building. On the right is a portion of the orchard. At work in the orchard is a irrigation pipe laying crew (behind the gray truck). The highway disappears into a tunnel behind the packing plant. Above and on the far left, the bluffs of Ribbon Cliff rise towards the sky.
