Diana's Scuba Page

This is a picture of me taken by my scuba instructor, Max, during my open water certification class in fall 2000.

I'd always wanted to learn to scuba dive, but it wasn't until I started dating David that I finally took my first class. I got certified in September of 2000 here in L.A.

So far I've done most of my diving in Southern California. Think cold water and lots of neoprene! One of my favorite dive spots is the Aquatic Park at Casino Point, on Catalina Island. The kelp is beautiful and there's lots of fish, plus it's easy to get to, and after diving you can have dinner in Avalon.

But last summer David and I went to Moorea, in French Polynesia, and I had my first warm-water diving experience. Needless to say, it was wonderful, and I'm looking forward to doing more.

This is my first scuba class. Max Wilson, our instructor, is second from the left. We're in Catalina for our final open water check-out dive.

A couple of months after I got certified, most of the members of my class reunited for an advanced class. For the open water portion of the class, we went down to San Diego for the weekend. We went to the Coronado Islands, in Mexican waters, where we encountered a friendly sea lion who played with us underwater. The next day, we did two dives on the Yukon, a sunken destroyer in Mission Bay. I learned that I really like wreck diving!

This was taken on the dive boat we took to the Channel Islands, out of Ventura Harbor, with Rod, Leslie and Richard.
