CON GAMES: PERSONAL STORIES

Paul Ragonese is the on-camera spokesman for the award-winning video CON GAMES: PERSONAL STORIES. He has spent 23 years in pursuit of justice, and is one of the most respected anti-crime figures in the country. He is currently a staff Consultant on crime news issues for the CBS network, most recently appearing on the CBS nightly news to assess fragments found in connection with the alleged Unibomber attacks.

Ragonese is widely known as one of the most decorated officers in the history of the New York City Police Department, where he rose to rank of detective until he retired after 17 years, having been injured in the line of duty.

Ragonese served on the NYC Counter Terrorism Team, and the Emergency Services Unit, where life and death rescues were part of his daily routine.

He became world famous after his help in the heroic rescue of Brigitte Gerney, the woman who lay trapped with her legs crushed under a fallen 35-ton crane in midtown Manhattan in 1985. Ragonese crawled under the crane and, without regard for his own safety, stayed by her side, helping to comfort and pray with her for two hours and 45 minutes, risking his own life in an incident that made international headlines.

He is also recognized for his role in the investigation that led to the arrest of the famed "Mad Bomber." He has appeared on ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC networks, including "Oprah Winfrey" and "Geraldo," and "20/20" with Barbara Walters.

Paul Ragonese was the first police officer featured on the program TOP COPS. Prior to his current affiliation with CBS, he had his own highly-rated call-in anti-crime television talk show SAFE STREETS. Ragonese has published a book, THE SOUL OF A COP with St. Martin's Press, and currently hosts the WCBS radio talk program on WKNY,"Street Talk."

Ragonese has been honored by mayors, governors, senators and Presidents Ronald Reagan and George Bush. He was recently named by Attorney General Dennis Vacco to the New York State Victim Advisory Board. His over 100 law enforcement awards include five Medals of Valor, Cop of the Year, and the prestigious New York State Medal of Honor.
