NASA Race and BMW DE
Test weekend for Plum Crazy

I've decided to make the transition from treaded DOT racing tires to full racing slicks.  This weekend was sponsored by the National Auto Sport Association of Florida  and the Sunshine Bimmers BMW club .  I volunteered to instruct for the BMW drivers ed in order to get some free track time.  I  wanted a chance to run on the slicks to get a feel for how they react, cold, warm and hot.  It rained much of the weekend, so I only had a few sessions on track.  People asked why I did not put on treaded tires and keep running.  That was not the goal of the weekend, so I did not see the point in wasting the money on race fuel to just drive around in wet conditions.  The 3 or 4 sessions I did get were great.  Since Sebring is such a large track, I was able to get plenty of open laps to run the car as hard as I wanted.  Slicks are definitely an "A" ticket ride.  I was able to carry more speed through the corners and I had to adjust my braking points deeper into the corner.  It was very easy to control and I look forward to the rest of the SCCA racing season.  Here are a few pictures I took Saturday morning before the rains came.
