Sebring 11/99

It was a pretty easy prep for this event, we had lots of time and not much to do.  The biggest thing we did was take some measurements and got the car sitting level.  We did not have time to do this before.  The new struts and shocks made the car sit higher then it did before, so we lowered the car while making these changes.  After we got this complete, we took it down to the dealer and had their alignment guy work his magic.  He actively involved with racing and has been doing alignments on Porsches for many many years.

I had the car loaded on the trailer ready to go Tuesday before Thanksgiving.  I packed the truck and headed west to St. Petersburg to see my parents and have Thanksgiving dinner.  On Friday I washed the car, filled the gas jugs and the truck and left for Sebring.  The plan was to get down there early and  take care of a couple of last minute things.  When I arrived at the track around 2:00pm, I found out there was a test day and no one was allowed inside the track until they were done.  So much for being early.

We got in around 5:00pm and work fast and furious setting up the tent, bleeding the brakes, and vacuuming the car before it got too dark.

Here are some pictures of the event.

Getting down to business!

We put the megaphones on for this race.  (more on this later)
Notice the nice PORSCHE letters obtained from Rennlist member Bob WIlliams.

Sitting on the grid for the Saturday afternoon race and then the start.

Here is our friend Sid Collins and his 40 year old E production 356.

It was another successful weekend.  The only problem we had, until Sunday afternoon,  was the driver contracted food poisoning the week before and was not 100%.  He drove pretty good, but not as fast or as aggressive as I think he would have been had he been healthy.

On Sunday afternoon, we were called to the stewards trailer after the race.  They got us twice at 104dB.  The limit is 103dB.  When we checked the sound sheets earlier in the day, they only had us at 101dB.  Mark was feeling better Sunday and drove 9 seconds a lap quicker then his qualifying time Saturday morning.  Since he drove the car harder, we tripped the sound meter.  We have some work to do before the next event to reduce the noise.

The next planned event for Plum Crazy Racing is the SCCA Driver School at Roebling Road the first weekend of February.  The bad part about this is that it conflicts with the Daytona 24, but I need to get this done.  Besides, I rather be driving then watching someone else drive anyway.
