Sebring 02/01
SCCA Cabin Fever Regional
Not much happened on the off season this year. There was not much to
do to get the car ready for the next race in February. This weekend
was to the the second that I had to run with the rookie strips on the car.
More on that later. The weather was much nicer this time around.
It was bright and sunny the entire weekend. This would be the
first time I ever ran on the short course configuration at Sebring. I
knew the layout, but I'd never driven it before. After a couple slow
laps to get the car warmed up and the driver in the proper state of mind,
it was time to start adding speed. Only problem I had the whole weekend
was on that first "at speed" lap. I came out of long course corner
#13 and proceeded to accelerate away. Just as I shifted up a gear,
I suddenly realized that I had to get slowed down and make a right. I
got the car slowed down, but I missed the apex by several car widths. If
I had missed the turn there were only cones blocking the track, so it would
not have been too bad. Not much else to say, so I'll just get to the
pictures.
Heading into the hairpin. Slow traffic stay where you are.
Another one bites the dust. You got to like those Porsche brakes.
Roger that tower, Porsche #70 cleared to pass.
The cut off that makes the short course.
Where the white camaro is, is turn #3 of the long course.
Working traffic in the "Safety Pin".
The original hairpin in the background is used as a run-off area.
Parked on the grid.
This would be the last SCCA weekend with the DOT tires.
After a very successful weekend, I got to pull my rookie strips.
I'm now fully licensed and loaded for bear
