He married Ellen Fearn 27 December 1859 in Riddings, Derbyshire Co., Eng. Ellen was born 21 April 1843 in Riddings, Derbyshire Co., Eng. Ellen was the daughter of Joseph Henry Fearn and Mary Anne Siddons. Ellen died 23 May 1924 in Bartley, Red Willow Co., NE, at age 81. "Richard Burton was born at Pear Tree Cottage, Somercotes, Derbyshire, England, Sept. 10, 1833 {note: changed by hand to 1834}. Died at his home near Bartley, May 10, 1900. He was left an orphan, his father dying two days before his birth. He commenced working in the coalmines when but seven years old. He received what education he had in the Sunday School Class in the Methodist Church in England. He sang in the choir from a small boy until about twenty years of age. From that time he sang in the choir of the Church of England until he came to America. He was married in the year of 1859 to Ellen Fearn from which union was born nine boys and five girls, there being the wife, eleven children, four of whom are married, and twenty grandchildren to mourn his departure."

"Eva, daughter of Robert and Kezia Bayston, was born in Orland, Cook county, Ill., Jan 18, 1865, and departed this life at her home, October 12, 1933, aged 68 years, 8 months and 24 days. At the age of 14 years she moved with her parents to Panama, Nebraska, later moving to Bennett. She was married at the parental home Nov. 29, 1893, to Albert Burton of Bartley, Nebr. With the exception of two years spent in Louisville, Colorado they have lived continuously on their farm home north of Bartley. To this union were born two sons and one daughter. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Panama at an early age and has been a member of the M. E. church at Bartley since 1893. Prior to her marriage she taught school for several years in Lancaster, Frontier and Red Willow counties, teaching her last term in the primary room of the Bartley school. She was one of the few in this vicinity who attended Mallalien University at Bartley. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, Albert Burton; two sons, Owen of Bartley and Floyd C. of Napa, Cal.; one daughter, Elsie V. of Bartley; tow grandchildren, Merwyn and Elaine; three sisters, Mrs. E. Young and Mrs. Lillie Barker of Adams, Nebr., and Mrs. Elizabeth Dickson of Panama, Nebr., and a host of other relatives and friends. Two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death, only 10 months having elapsed since the death of her twin sister, Mrs. Edith Dickson."

Third Generation

6. Richard3 Burton Jr. (Richard2, John1) was born in Pear Tree Cottage, Sommercotes, Derbyshire, England 6 December 1864. Richard died 8 January 1934 in Bartley, Red Willow Co., NE, at age 69.

Richard Burton was born in Somercotes, Derbyshire, England, Dec. 6, 1864. Here he was baptized and became a member of the chrurch of England, and as a boy rendered services to his Master by singing in the choir. Early in life he came with his parents to America, making their home in Pennsylvania. Two times he went back to the old home in England, and before settling in Red Willow County they lived in Pennsylvania, Iowa and Illinois. In 1884 the parental home was established three miles north of Bartley, and there he lived until April 4, 1894 when he was united in marriage to Mattie Jennings. They lived 4 miles north of Bartley with the exception of two years spent in Louisville, Colo., until the year 1926 when they left the farm and moved to Bartley. Mr. Burton was always a busy man, a good citizen, a helpful neighbor, a devoted husband and a loving father. To this union were born six children, 4 girls and 2 boys; Lyman R. Burton, Bartley; Lola Ellen Ginther, Pichey, Montana; Hannah Fearn Teter, Bartley; Levi Burton, Bartley; Grace M. Miller, Albion, Wash.; Alberta E. Wolf, Alma, Nebr. During the Christmas vacation all of the children were home, and of the 20 grandchildren all but the three little Ginther boys. These days brought an unspeakable joy into the life of Mr. and Mrs. Burton. Then the sorrow came and Mr. Burton passed away at his home January 8, 1934, being at the time of his death 69 years of age. Not only does he leave his family but also seven brothers and three sisters and many friends to mourn his loss.

16. Lillie Lois3 Burton (Richard2, John1) was born in Streator, La Salle Co., IL 30 March 1882. Lillie died 11 April 1965 in Blair, Washington Co., NE, at age 83.

She married twice. She married an unknown person 16 September 1908 in Bartley, Red Willow Co., NE. She married Rev. Charles Eugene Catlett Wednesday Evening, 16 September, 1908 in Bartley, Red Willow Co., NE. From the Bartley Inter Ocean

"One of the prettiest home weddings ever celebrated in this community occurred Wednesday evening of this week at the home of Mrs. Ellen Burton when she gave her youngest daughter Lillie Lois, in marriage to the Rev. Charles E. Catlett, of University Place, Neb., the Rev. Ernest B. Crippen, of Bradshaw, Neb., officiationg. Miss Ethel Clark presided at the organ as the bridal party entered the room and took their places in the nook prepared for them. Miss Nellie Rittenburg was bridesmaid and Mr. Joseph Burton was best man. The bride was dressed in white silk chiffon and lace and carried in her hand a shower boquet of bridal wreath flowers. The groom was dressed in the conventional black. Immediately after the ceremony and congratulations a bountiful wedding supper was served to the over hundred guests present. Charley and bride will begin house keeping in a week or two in University Place, Neb., where he has but recently built a modern new home. Mr. Catlett will graduate from the Wesleyan University as a full-fledged Methodist preacher in June. The bride has grown to young womanhood in this community, has taught a number of most successful terms of school in Bartley, and with her husband who was also raised in this community, enjoys a wide circle of acquaintance who will unite with the Inter Ocean in wishing them all possible success and happiness in their wedded life. They were the recipients of many beautiful and useful wedding presents from admiring relatives and friends"
