A Computerized Library System for the Data-Base Management of CT Data*

Abstract

The increased use of computerized procedures in hospital radiology departments has brought about new problems and capabilities in the management of data.  These procedures are generating numerous records for each patient, complicating information collection and dissemination to the various offices and individuals desiring access to the data.  A  computerized library system has been developed which catalogs user input and allows for the selective retrieval of information related to Computed Tomography (CT) and other diagnostic procedures.  The system can be used for data logging and in research investigating areas such as the efficacy of CT, treatment planning, and the applications of decision theoretic analysis and clinical research.  The system creates library records which contain patient identifiers, scan descriptions, and information concerning patient symptoms and clinical diagnostic test results.  The system can be optimized by the user to contain only the parameters applicable or to add additional ones.  Records can be updated or modified at any time with printed records available in formats suitable for various uses.  Information may be retrieved from the library records on a selective basis with the ability to limit retrieval b y use of boolean logic.  In this paper various operating modes and uses of the scan library system are discussed.
