As
soon as the four Smith sisters were tall enough and
strong
enough to walk to the top of the highest hill on the
Benton
farm in the Cumberland Mountains of Eastern
Kentucky,
they picked blackberries there every July.
Those
blackberries were made into cobblers, jam, juice--
and
ultimately into memories of the place where
the
berries grew, high up on the hill.
The
company name, Blackberry Hill Stitchers,
acknowledges
our debt to the Benton and Smith family
members,
past and present, whose mountain values
and
skills as Appalachian artisans have been
passed
down to us.
Each
of the four sisters is proficient in a variety of textile
arts:
quilting, color, fabric, design, and embellishment.
Our
skills enable us to offer you heirloom products to
ensure
the continuity of your own family memories.
