What is this Udvar-Hazy thingee?
The Udvar-Hazy Center (pronounced OOD-var HAH-zee), an adjunct to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum, just opened near Dulles Airport to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the 17 December 1903 Wright Brothers' flight at Kitty Hawk. Some 200 aircraft and 135 large space artifacts will ultimately be on display, including the Space Shuttle Enterprise, a SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance plane, a Dash 80 prototype of the Boeing 707, a F-4 Phantom and the fully-assembled B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay which dropped the first A-bomb over Hiroshima in August 1945. U-H replaces a refurbishing facility situated in Suitland, Maryland. The new Center will include an IMAX theater.
