Why is SWE Atlanta organizing a summer camp?
The demand for technology - savvy entrants in the workplace is growing three times faster than all other occupations,
while enrollment in colleges of engineering is declining - particularly among women.
In an effort to change the current perception of engineering and technology fields among young women, SWE Atlanta
is hosting a summer camp for female high school students for a week long exposure to prominent Atlanta companies during the
week of June 9, 2008 from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM daily.
SWE Atlanta has coordinated with five Atlanta companies to give female high school students an opportunity to
meet women engineers and technologists to learn first-hand about their exciting career paths. Siemens, Kimberly Clark,
Georgia Power, American Criminal Justice Association/ American Intl Univ., and Street Smarts are the participating
companies. By the end of the week, students will have a thorough understanding of these businesses, which subjects to
concentrate on in high school, and possibly which majors to target in college. Download the flyer above for complete
details.
How do interested students register?
Students and/or their parents should register no later than May 24th
by sending an email to the coordinator. Please note that space is limited to the first 20 participants. Make sure to include the participant’s name, phone
number, email address, grade level, and name of the school.
