Meet the Music Director

Douglas Bruck, an instructor of music at San Diego Mesa College for the last eight years, currently serves as the Music Director and conductor of the Palomar Symphony Orchestra.  He received a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from San Diego State University, studying under Karen Follingstad and George  Katz.  He then continued at SDSU receiving a Master of Music in instrumental conducting under Dr. Donald Barra.  While there, he was also an active member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

After attending San Diego State, Mr. Bruck went on to serve as assistant conductor to Karen Keltner at the San Diego Opera then to Dr. Donald Barra at the San Diego Chamber Orchestra.  With the San Diego Chamber Orchestra he not only helped to produce, rehearse, and conduct for the highly successful Carnival Concerts series but also wrote many orchestral arrangements.

In the fall of 1997 Mr. Bruck founded the Mesa Symphony Orchestra, where he served as Music Director and conductor for two years.  For the last ten years he has also been the Music Director of the Ascension Lutheran Church.  He plans to pursue a post-graduate degree in Orchestral Conducting.

Most recently, Mr. Bruck served on the adjudication committees for the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus Young Artist Competition and the Music Teachers Association of California VOCE Competition.
