Dig in the pristine exposures of the White River Formation

Welcome to PaleoDigs web site!

We invite you to join us in the summer of 2009 for the ultimate experience in fun, education and collection of the most incredible specimens of Oligocene vertebrate fossils.

See Educational programs and slide shows in our amphitheatre. Learn how to identify, Stabilize and excavate fossils in the field.
Dig fossils in the pristine, 35 million year old Oligocene exposures of N.W. Nebraska.

Keep the Fossils that you find!

The value that you receive in this world class dig is incredible.
In other digs, you do the grunt work and they keep the fossils.
You pay them an exorbitant fee and you have to bring your own
tent and sleeping bag. You might get Beanie Weenies and water.

Our Lodging Options:
Included in our price is either a newly remodeled ranch house (Southwest decor), or a rustic cabin historic to pine ridge (moved down from the top of pine ridge and restored on site in the summer of 2005.)     Either is fun!

All meals are included:
We have an Outdoor Cowboy Breakfast each morning
(up and at 'em)
Sandwiches and munchies are brought to you each day directly to the base camp.
There's a cookout every evening, along with bonfires, programs, local entertainment when available and star gazing.

We encourage you to bring your kids along.
They may just be the next crop of paleontologists.

Taking your kids on a dig can probably help them get extra credit for that next year's science class at school.
They can be the envy of the other students in their class.

What a great show and tell Jonathan has for his class next year!

Expect to find a treasure and an experience that you can remember for a lifetime.

Site Dedication

This site is dedicated to the memory of a good friend, colleague
and fellow paleontologist Kenneth Wayne Smith whose life was
cut short at the age of 45 while scuba-diving in Puerto Rico.
Ken died on July 14th 1998 doing what made him happy.
He lived his life to the fullest in everything he did.
Adventure and discovery was his goal in life.
Ken was a key organizer of the Dallas Paleontological Society
and introduced Dave to the Oligocene in 1984.

He is truly missed by all he touched.
