Alligator Bay is off the ICW just east of the bridge leading to North Topsail Beach. Mill creek flows into the bay past Grant's Oyster House and a golf course. Put in and take out was under the bridge using the wildlife ramp at the south east end of the bridge. The paddle was seven miles. We could only paddle about a quarter mile past Grant's Oyster house.
Oysters growing on the bridge pilings look good enough to eat!
A beautiful grove of live oaks isolated on higher ground in the marsh as we turned into Alligator Bay. The huge front tree is dying of salt water intrusion we suppose. This clearly illustrates the grotesque and weird manner of the growth pattern of live oak limbs.
Some of the countless abandoned crab pots existng in this area. They spoil the beauty of the area. If any group is going to remove them be careful as local crabbers also store their good crab pots up in the marsh grass along the shore.
