Gov Docs in the Real World

My intent is to provide a place to document the progress we're making (or not making) in replacing the 3 million maps, aerial photographs, and government documents that were damaged or destroyed in the 2004 Hamilton Library flood.

She's baaack!
Yes, and a lot happened while I was gone, too. We welcomed flood recovery librarian Carol Hasegawa, who will handle some of the collection development and cataloging chores as well as helping at the reference desk.

The ground floor design for Hamilton Library was approved, with a last-minute change introduced by the university librarian -- the addition of a GIS lab.

We are still opening boxes of our documents that were dried at Belfor and adding their holdings to the online catalog. We're also finishing up the boxes of documents from UH Hilo, which we've begun to add to the catalog as well.

Ross Togashi relocated from Archives to rooms on the third floor, where he and his student assistants will have more processing space and be in closer proximity to both the map cases and Special Collections. We aim to resume public service for maps on August 21 in the Special Collections Reading Room.
