Yuri found a most interesting volume of Report of the Superintendent of the U.S. Coast Survey for 1853. It seems
that a previous owner had cut a hole in the book to create a hiding place for --?? A knife? Money? A lock of a sweetheart's
hair? The volume shows no marks of ownership. It came to us from Ole Miss. Although the text has been destroyed, the nautical
charts in the back are still usable (although some have knife cuts). If books could talk!
