Howdy folks!
I'm Cassie Smith -
Welcome to my world of Natural - Not Normal.
My journey into Natural horsemanship has taken me to a new level
of communication, trust, and confidence with my horse.
I am studying natural horsemanship using the methods
that the renowned clinician, Pat Parelli teaches.
I have also learned a lot from Dennis Reis and Tom Dorrance.
I am studying Clinton Anderson because of my interest in reining
and Walter Zettl based on my interest in dressage.
Ultimately though, Pat puts it all together in a way
that even adults like me can understand.
Pat teaches that we are predators
and our horses know it.
It's NORMAL for us to do things to our horses
and become frustrated when they react in a NATURAL way.
My goal is to learn to "think, act and play like a horse,"
as Pat puts it.
Once I learned some very basic natural skills, I began a journey to a safer and more productive relationship with my partner, the HORSE.

Normal is what we have always been taught. Kick a horse to make him go, pull on him to make him whoa. Normal is buy a new bit - buy a new tie down. Normal is send him back to the trainer for a tune up or go take more riding lessons to fix our problems. Now, I prefer to simply focus on being more Natural and developing a relationship and partnership with my horse. Natural comes from Mother Nature and nobody beats Mother Nature.

Funny how a little girl's dreams can come true.

1. Horses don't follow bullies or cowards, they follow leaders.
2. If your horse is your mirror,
then look close enough to see if you should forget
the hair, and just powder the nose.
3. Horses don't care how much you know,
until they know how much you care.
4. Horses don't learn when we ask them to do something -
They learn when we quit asking them to do something.
5. NEVER do anything that takes away a horse's
