Area Code Updates

Update your phonebooks and databases

I have developed some macros for use with NisusWriter which allow a user to find and update the area codes for phone numbers in several of the area codes which have been split in the last several years.

NisusWriter is an exceptionally powerful text processor for the Macintosh. It allows a user to do many kinds of text manipulation. With the ability to "extend" the basic command set via small programs, generally called "macros", a user can create commands which are combinations of single commands and powerful "find/replace" statements in order to do many kinds of text manipulation. These phonebook macros allow any file which can be represented as a text file (such as, a FileMaker Pro file exported as a "tab-delimited" file) to be searched for phone numbers; the area codes of found numbers are compared to the one being split, then if the area code is identical, the exchange is compared with the exchanges known to be moving to the new area code, and the area code updated.

For personal use these macros are for sale for $50 per area code. They have been compiled from sources believed to be accurate and have been tested. However, the timeliness of conversion, changes by phone service providers and regulators may affect the accuracy of your conversion. Unfortunately, I cannot warrant the accuracy of these macros and how you use them. They are offered for sale "as is".

Or I can do the necessary work to update your "phonebooks" if you give me a tab-delimited (preferably) text file of your database (important or sensitive non-phone fields should be deleted from the file I get).

Area code splits currently available include: 312-->312/773, 708-->708/847/630, 407-->407/561, 713-->713/281, 414-->414/920.

Pricing & Conversion Information

Minimum fee: $50 per file -- this includes the first 10 listings/addresses.

Minimum set-up fee (for more than basic editing changes in file format, etc.): $25 (at rate of $50/hour in 30 minute increments)

Listings converted after first 10 are priced at $40/hundred or fraction thereof.

Listings changed will be noted in text file. Each listing will have a new first field entered; if this field is blank, no change has been made; if this field has text in it, the text will represent the old area code -- that is, a "312" will indicate that one phone number has been changed to area code 773.

Where the exchange might be changed due to information as provided by Ameritech (or other provider of information), this will be indicated by "@@" following the changed area code or other "flag" if requested by user (this will incur a minimum $25 fee as part of set-up charges).

If there are more than 4 possible phone numbers per listing, the fee will be adjusted in a proportional manner per 100 listings -- that is, five possible phone numbers will be charged $50.00 per 100 (or 5/4 of $40).

When the order is placed the greater of the minimum fee and 50% of the estimated total fee is due with order. Balance upon completion. Returned check charges will be added.

Second and subsequent area codes included in the same order will be charged $40 per 100 records. Volume discounts may be available.

Export file as "tab-delimited". If any data fields are sensitive, do not export them; or first import into Excel (or other spreadsheet), copy/paste the column(s) into a new/blank spreadsheet (to be used when you receive your data back), then delete (command-K in Excel) the column, and visually check that fields of similar data (e.g., last names, home ZIP codes) align vertically (i.e., they are in the same fields or relative locations), then re-export as "tab-delimited" text.

If you can filter out those listings which are outside the area code(s) affected by these changes, you should save money. You will be charged for every listing which I get; a listing is one name/address with up to four phone numbers (e.g., home, work, fax, pager) within the same record. The listing count will be the first figure determined by the program which "massages" your data. If this count is 232 (for example), you will be charged $120 or $40 times 3 [1 + ((232-11) div 3)] plus any set-up fees; you will owe $60 upon completion of the job if you paid $60 in advance.

Make a "clone" (or template/stationery file) of your data file. This will be used when you get your data back.
