Iber woke after midday, slightly disoriented. One glance around the cottage told him the occupants were already up and out for the day. Iber was not used to sleeping so long or so soundly, but the sun pouring in through the windows could not be mistaken. Iber stood and stretched. From his position, he could see the waving white field of plant stalks, the people running among them seeming quite vivid and colorful in contrast to the pale flora.

He stepped outside the cottage and watched the commotion. Iber guessed that every neighbor within ten miles had poured into the area.
