Our Mission serves the children of the
Internado de la Anuciata, in Chichicastenango (Chichi), Guatemala.
The Internado is run by six Dominican Nuns. This school provides shelter, food, clothing and an education for about
200 indigenous girls between the ages of 6 and 17 who hail primarily from 13 Mayan Villages located in the mountains
that surround Chichi.
It takes $35 a month
to provide the necessary food, clothing and personal needs for each child at the school. Our Mission is dedicated to finding sponsors who will provide this
monetary support. Our goal is to find a sponsor for every child at the Internado. This mission is run by
an all volunteer staff, so every dollar of sponsorship money is sent to the school and used supporting the children.
The school facilities themselves
are old, and there are times when major repair and renovation work is needed. At such times, we look
for individuals and corporations to help us provide for such work. Such work is funded and conducted separately from the
monthly sponsorships.
Knowing that all of us, regardless
of race, nationality, education or social status, are created in the image of God (Genisis 1:27), we are driven to care for the least among us, as Jesus Christ
commands (Matthew 25:40). If there is any reward in doing this, it is in knowing that
many of the girls have continued their education after leaving the Internado, and have gone back to their villages as
teachers, nurses and social workers. Many of them have also helped other family members to get an education, and some
have opened the first schools in their village. We offer of ourselves to those who are in need. They take what
they have received and in turn give of themselves to still more who are in need, and so it goes. That is how the
body of Christ is built on earth.
