What is C.U.R.E.?

C.U.R.E., Citizens United for the Rehabilitation of Errants, is a national organization dedicated to the reduction of crime through the reform of the criminal justice system. C.U.R.E. has an organized presence in most states, either through state chapters, contact chapters, (first step toward becoming a chapter) or organizations with similar goals that affiliate with C.U.R.E.

When and where did C.U.R.E. start?

C.U.R.E. began in San Antonio, Texas, in 1972 when a dozen citizens (families of prisoners and concerned individuals) went to the legislature in Austin to work against the death penalty. In 1975, C.U.R.E. formally organized with an annual convention and a constitution. In 1985, C.U.R.E. expanded to a national organization.
