Ain't Got Nothin' To Lose

Columbia BS 85504

album cover 'Ain't got nothin to lose'

Album Review by
Country Music Magazine, London, England

Bobby Bare has done it again! Another fine honkey tonk album. This time entitled 'Ain't Got Nothin' To Lose'.

Songwise there's not much new, but I'll guarantee you haven't heard these songs done this way before.

'Goodnight Irene', the old Huddie Ledbetter blues, is given a whole new lease of life and would make a tremendous closing number for any 'live' show.

'Golden Memories', on which Bob is joined by the composer, Lacy J. Dalton, for a brief few seconds. I'd love to hear this done as a duet proper, for Bare and Dalton have extremely compatible voices.

Hugh Moffatt's 'Praise The Lord & Send Me The Money' is an absolute mind blower, a song much in the Shel Silverstein mould. And speaking of Shel, Bob includes two of Silverstein's best, 'Cold Day In Hell' and 'So Good To So Bad'.
