12 is not enough resolution for this project,
so I do not recommend
the 12 Marker test unless you are simply looking to match existing

25 Marker test, to verify the
genetic matches between males using the Y-chromosome.
This was the second upgrade offered by Family Tree DNA years ago.
Resolution of the TMRCA for 25 markers breaks down the further back you
go, and does not match
current participants as well as the 37 marker test. This test is not useful for TMRCA analysis from
1,000 years ago. Therefore, I would suggest at least a 37 marker test.

37 Marker test, to verify the
genetic matches between males using the Y-chromosome.
The third product to be offered from FTDNA years ago.
This test has good enough resolution to use with geographical analysis,
but it does have some
problems resolving the difference between lines with a different common
ancestor from 400 years ago. Y-DNA

67 Marker test, to verify the
genetic matches between males using the Y-chromosome.
This test can provide a fairly good estimate of the TMRCA within a
group. It can have problems resolving
a common ancestor from 400 years ago, and has poor resolution at 1500
years ago.

111 Marker test, to verify the
genetic matches between males using the Y-chromosome.
This is the most useful test if are looking for a more accurate TMRCA
estimate.

DNA test is of the
Y-chromosome sequence.
Female HAM descendants are encouraged to participate by having a
male HAM descendant take the test. When we have a match of the
Y-chromosome DNA sequence between two or
more participants, then we have a genetic link to a common ancestor. For
