Looking through the tacky curtains
she watches the blinking VACANCY
sign
spelling the letters in her
mind
looking for yet another way
to pass the time.

She laughs at the irony of
it.
He just didn’t see, either.
A world beyond her comprehension.
Lovers he could never touch.
Friends he would never see.
A world so far from their reality.
The one of them became two
again.
Became a million.
Staring with burning eyes at
the monitor
