Green
I am a child of the evergreens
bare toes curling into rich loam
chasing golden butterflies through the columns of
warm sun
small twigs crackling underfoot
thick hair sweet streaming
as only a child’s can
carefree as I play.
I am a prisoner of the world around me
of restraints self-created
monsters I choose not to fight
problems I willfully ignore piling around me
losing myself in an emerald daze
as evening falls
comforted by lofty aspirations thrown windward.
I am a vixen of the mists
green veil swirling wild about me
as I traverse recklessly through feather dawn
daring those who halt me
with a flash of fiery eyes alight in glowing face
no time for sorrow
I do not feel regret.
