Several Reasons Why The San Francisco 49ers Are Over-rated!
 
This page is dedicated to those misguided football fans who still think the 49ers deserve credit for being the only competitive team in the NFC West! Yes, the 49ers did manage to win five Super Bowls, but the 49er organization is given way too much credit for "peaking" at a time when the AFC (Ain't Feeling Competitive) had no more Super Bowl powers like the Pittsburgh Steelers or Miami Dolphins of the 70's. By the way, before you keep running that "best ever" crap, here's a trivia question to the 1980's 49er "band wagon jumpers" - Question: What were the 49ers DOING from 1966 to 1980? (Answer: they SUCKED like the rest of the NFC West!)

 Special note to 49er "mental midgets" - this page deals with stats from YEARS of NFL data on the NFC West compared to the rest of the league. In 1999 the Rams (latest NFC West one-season-wonder) demonstrated how EASY is is to get 10+ wins when your division SUCKS!.

 OK - after a bunch of lucky overtime wins, the 49ers FINALLY make the playoffs in 2002 - BIG FREAKIN' DEAL!!! Unlike the 80's, the rest of the NFC West is NOT laying down to give them a cake walk into the NFC Championship game. As a WILD CARD, they will  travel to ANYWHERE (most likely the PACKERS or RAMS) and get their ASS KICKED - AGAIN!!!

To all the FortyWhiners living in the PAST - GET OVER IT! This ain't the 80's - PASS THE POPCORN YOU LOSERS!!!!

There are many reasons why the 49ers are over-rated as a team AND an organization, but here are a few:

  1. Note: although the NFC West FINALLY has more than one competitive team, it took over 30 YEARS to get there. The 49ers have had a FEAST on this division which spotted them 6 wins a years for almost 3 decades!
  2. Dallas has been to an unprecedented 8 Super Bowls, yet 49er fans fans are quick to say "getting there is not enough, good teams WIN when they get there". Well, using that same logic, GOOD teams WIN AFC/NFC Championships when they get there. The 49ers have had TWELVE opportunities to get to the Super Bowl. In spite of playing an overwhelming majority AT HOME, they are only 5-7 (.416) in NFC Championship games while Dallas is 8-8 (.500).
  3. Great teams win NFC/AFC Championships "ON THE ROAD" - the 49ers have done it only once (1-3) but Dallas has done it four times (4-6)!
  4. How bad is the NFC West? Since 1971, this pitiful division has averaged above .500 only 10 times in 26 YEARS years during the regular season! Of the 30 WORST NFC teams in the history of the Super Bowl, almost HALF of the teams are from the NFC West - what a surprise!!
  5. For fours years (in recent history) the 49ers FINALLY played competitive teams in their division (Panthers, Falcons, Rams), they were reduced to WILD CARD material. They even got STOMPED in Georgia! Duh! In 2001, we can expect more of the same...
  6. They are NOT in the NFC East (in case you haven't noticed, the NFC East has WON 5 of the last 9 Super Bowls this decade and about 1/3 of ALL Super Bowls ever played!!!).
  7. Of the 30 BEST teams in Super Bowl history, the NFC East is represented by THREE teams - Cowboys, Redskins and Giants. The NFC West - well, you figure it out!
  8. Of the 30 BEST teams in Super Bowl history, NONE of the 49ers teams have an opponent ranking of greater than .488!! Of the 30 teams, the BEST 49er team is #19 from the TOP in opponent ranking (see 1994). The NFC East is near the TOP of this list in schedule strength - 3rd, 4th and 7th with opponent rankings of .531, .528 and .514 respectively. These teams won championships while facing a MUCH tougher schedule - CONSISTENTLY!
  9. They played the San Diego Chargers in Super Bowl 29 - one of the WORST AFC teams in Super Bowl history!
  10. . They are not the only team with 5 Super Bowl wins - Dallas also has 5. Based on item 9, we should count the 49ers last Super Bowl win as 1/2!
  11. . They never faced the Steelers of the 70's in a Super Bowl - the LAST competitive dynasty in the AFC.
  12. . T hey consistently beat bad teams while frequently losing to the FEW good teams they face during the regular season. In (1998), in the 16 games during the regular season, the 49ers only played 8 teams with a winning record - the result was 3-5 - typical! Throughout their history, the 49ers have a LOSING record against WINNING teams - unfortunately, because of their pitiful division and poor NFL scheduling policies (TV viewers LOVE Dallas - even when they lose!), the 49ers rarely play more than 6 winning teams a year during the regular season.
