NSTT
celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2008 with 10
successful events around the state. This year we
celebrate 20 years of folkssporting in Minnesota
State Parks.
In 1989 the
Minnesota Dept. of Natural Resources sanctioned
18 events around the state. The award was a
bluebird header pin with a state park bar for
each park. If you did all 18 events, you
received a Perfect Attendance bar. Only three
walkers were awarded that bar. But it started
the program in the state parks, and by the end
of 2008, well over 23,500 participants will have
walked in a sanctioned walk in the state parks.
NSTT
volunteers worked hard last year to sponsor 10
events, so this year, we're backing off a bit to
give folks a rest. Nonetheless, we will still be
offering nine events over the course of the
year. We're doing this by grouping a couple of
bike events in with our walks.
But first,
February 28, we will stay in the metro
area for a snowshoe event at North
Mississippi Regional Park in Brooklyn
Center. With the snow-less winters we've had,
it's become increasingly hard to find places to
sponsor a snowshoe event and be able to provide
snowshoes. N. Mississippi has a good supply and
are anxious for us to come.
April
25-26 we head south for a four-event
weekend. On Saturday, we'll have a walk and a
bike event at Sakatah Lake State Park by
Waterville. Sunday, we head over to
Minneopa State Park by Mankato for a walk and
bike. Riverbend Striders are cosponsoring
this event with us. Thanks!
August
1-2 we go back to Forestville State
Park/Mystery Cave for a two-walk
weekend. Four loops have been scouted out
and we'll walk two different loops each day.
October
10-11 we travel north to Pelican Rapids for
a two-day event at Maplewood State Park.
This event will coincide with Pelican Rapids'
Oktoberfest Walk at Lida Greens Golf Course. It
will be worth the drive, we
guarantee!
We'll finish
off the year on October 31 with our
annual meeting guided walk at O'Brien State
Park near Marine-on-St. Croix. Join us as we
wind down the 20th anniversary at one of the
most popular parks around.
We highly
encourage pre-registration if you desire an
event award. You can print
out a form here
to cover the season or individual forms will be
available on each event page.
See you on
the trails!
