Afton State Park Snowshoe/Walk

Registration

Start/finish: Trail Center
6959 Peller Avenue S., Hastings
Start times: You may start anytime after 10 a.m.,  and finish by 4 p.m.

The Trail
1km and 2km on paved trails for boot walking and 4km to 6km option for snowshoes or boots if you choose. Trails to be determined by the snow conditions and weather. A 1km will be added for the naturalist walk.

In the event of extreme weather conditions, this event will be postponed and rescheduled for
Saturday, March 2.
All times/places remain the same.

WEATHER PRECAUTIONS

Dress in layers ... as you walk you will warm up and may need to shed a layer! For footwear,   wear insulated type boots, pack boots or even a good hiking boot with wool socks. This event   will be cancelled only in case of extreme weather conditions such as a blizzard or below zero temperatures. If the weather is questionable you may check the NSTT website at

for last minute event info, or call 612-529-0552 after 8 p.m. the prior evening for a recorded message. In the event of no snow, the route will be walked.




Event Award
Mukluks leather pin, $8; IVV event book credit, $3; walk only, $2.


Walk with a naturalist
Naturalist Linda Radimecky will lead a snowshoe walk at 1 p.m.
The park will provide snowshoes free for those participating in the naturalist walk.

Refreshments:
Water and restrooms are available at the center.
A sloppy joe lunch will be available for a suggested donation for participants only.

Don't have your own snowshoes??
Afton State Park will provide a limited number of traditional snowshoes available
for rent for $6/day.
Other options are to bring your own if you have them, or walk in your winter boots.
The event will be held in any weather except extreme wind chill or blizzard conditions.

Getting There
6959 Peller Avenue South, Hastings, MN 55033. From St. Paul: Go 9 miles east on I-94 to exit #253, then 7 miles south on Highway 95, then 3 miles east on County Road 22.

State Park Vehicle Permit

A state park vehicle permit is required when you enter any state park. Daily permits cost $7.
An annual permit can be purchased for $35 and entitles you to an unlimited number of visits to any and all Minnesota State Parks for 12 months after date of purchase.
