 NSTT Awards Banner

Last year's awards banner was so popular, we're offering a new one for 2009!
Only $9.50 and you can have your own cool banner to display your awards!

Is one of the things you like about folkssports the "collecting" of event awards and IVV stamps? There are a whole bunch of other ways you can add cool things to your collection!

NSTT Event Awards
Event awards provide instant gratification. These memorabilia become special reminders of the good times and places you've enjoyed. Most events offer a new award special for that event; however, some events are only for IVV credit and awards from previous events--also known as "B medals"--may be purchased.

All our NSTT events will have new and unique awards available this year hand crafted awards made by Minnesota artisans. These are pictured on each of the Event pages.

Other specialty items may be available at weekend events. Be sure to check when you sign in.

Did you get your "pinning tree?"

This awesome wooden display tree allows you to show off your leather pin awards. It stands 9 inches high by 8 inches wide and 1/2 inch deep. It's made by Hardwood Creations, the same vendor who makes our A&B awards every year.

We have just a few left, so if you want one, pick one up at our next event.

It can be yours for only $10 ... don't miss out on this unique pin display, made just for NSTT!

NSTT "Above & Beyond" Program

NSTT has initiated a recognition program to encourage participation and membership in our club and events. The award will be given, at the discretion of the NSTT Board, to any folkssporter who has shown extra efforts to assist at events or behind the scenes. Be an active volunteer and earn this unique laser cut wooden award for your trophy case!

NSTT State Park Volunteer Awards

NSTT has a Volksvolunteer patch that you can add to your collection by working at or for an NSTT event. Call the event contact and tell them when or what you would like to do to support that event and you'll get your Volksvolunteer patch at no cost!

K-9 Corps

Does your "best friend" walk with you at NSTT events? The pick up a K-9 Corps registration book and give your dog credit for walking too! Species-appropriate prizes will be presented at the 10 event (tasty treats) and 25 event (bandanas pictured above) levels!

The Minnesota State Parks have two incentive programs you might like to get involved in.

One is the Hiking Club, which encourages you to hike specified trails at each park, resulting in patches you receive after reaching different levels of hikes as well as free camping when you get to upper levels!

The Passport Club is designed to encourage you to visit each of the parks, from Afton to Zippel Bay! Again, you'll receive patches and camping incentives for visiting the parks. These are great side-by-side programs to do along with your folkssport events!

Both club kits are available at parks for $12.95 each.

The parks also have a Junior Park Naturalist program for kids that encourages kids to learn more about Minnesota State Parks. Activity books are free and kids can earn patches and certificates for each of the three activity books they complete.

Ask about these programs when you visit the parks for our folkssport events!

AVA Special Programs
The AVA sponsors a number of special event programs designed to get walkers to new and historic places like Historic Churches, America's Firehouses, Museums, and more. Click on the AVA Special Programs link above to bring you directly to their page where you can check out these events and special awards for yourself.

AVA Master Program

This program honors adults and youth who participate together in folkssporting, and it recognizes adults who mentor youth in the physical fitness aspect of the sport. The program also honors youth groups from scouts, YMCA, and others who participate in folkssports. No previous experience is necessary, and all new folkssporters who sign up for the Master Program can receive guidance, if they desire, from local folkssporting clubs.

This program encourages an adult and child to walk together at 12 events throughout the course of a year. They must walk together at the same event to fulfill the program requirements. When they finish, they both receive a certificate and medals, as shown. You buy a special record book from the AVA and get it stamped at each event you do, much like the IVV record books.

Presidential Sports Award

The Presidential Sports Award program was developed by the President's Council on Physical Fitness & Sports in 1972 in conjunction with national sports organizations and associations. Its purpose is to motivate all Americans to become more physically active throughout life, and emphasizes regular exercise rather than outstanding performance. The program is administered by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). There are dozens of different sport categories in which you can participate, including Endurance Walking, Fitness Walking, Race Walking, Bicycling, Swimming, Nordic Skiing AND VOLKSSPORTS.

Girl Scouts "Walk Together" with AVA

The AVA also has an agreement with the Girl Scouts of America to collaborate on folkssport events where Scout Councils can work with local clubs to provide councilwide "Walk Togethers." Special patches are available for the Girl Scouts from the AVA for participating in such an event.

The IVV has established an incentive award program to encourage regular participation in IVV events. There are two types of awards, each having specific levels of achievement. An IVV record book is used to collect certification stamps needed for each level of achievement. When an achievement level is reached, the IVV awards a certificate, embroidered cloth patch and hat pin. The IVV record books currently cost $5.00 (which covers the award elements) and are available at all events. These books are valid indefinitely and are honored at any IVV sanctioned folkssport event worldwide. Distance and Event Record Books are available at most events.

IVV-AVA Credits can be earned for Distance walked (biked, skied) AND for the number of Events in which you participate. These credits are recognized worldwide as symbols or achievement. They count toward acquisition of International Achievement Awards. Each type of credit is recorded upon completion of the event by a rubber stamp in a special Distance and/or Event Record Book. While Event credit for each walk may only be earned once each year, there is no annual limit on the Distance credit that may be earned for any of these events, and you are encouraged to participate as much as you desire. A new "Plus" system, beginning in 1999, allows that Year-round events will have a "+" on the rubber stamp during the first six months of the year, which is removed during the last six months, allowing a folkssporter to participate twice for event credit.

IVV_book_inside

At each event, a charge of $3.00 includes the IVV credit stamp applied in either or BOTH books. Those who do not desire IVV credits will pay a $2.00 participation fee.

After completing a specified number of events or distance to reach an award level, your achievement will be recognized by the AVA national office with an award pin, patch and certificate at no additional charge. All events sponsored by NSTT are sanctioned by the American Volkssport Association (AVA) in the International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV) and eligible for international achievement credit.

Event awards are given after participating in 10, 30, and 50 events. After 50 events, awards are given for every 25 events until 600 events have been completed. After 600 events, awards are given for every 50 events.

Distance awards are given after completing 500 kilometers until the participant has completed 8000K. After 8000K awards are given for every 1000K completed.
