A state park vehicle permit is required when you enter the park. Daily permits are available for $5 but the best value for folkssporters usually is an annual permit for $25, which entitles you to an unlimited number of visits to any and all Minnesota State Parks for one full year from month of purchase.

We've been saying it for years, but we need to say it again ... please carry water with you whenever you walk or bike any folkssport event, but especially in the state parks. Pumps and fountains are available at many locations, but don't depend on it. Better to be prepared and not need it than to need it and not be prepared!

Please use your common sense and stay off the trails when there is threat of dangerous weather! Not sure what the weather is like at the park you're heading to? Check out the weather report on our event pages for current weather conditions before you start!

Over the past decade, pre-registering for folkssport events has almost become a dead issue. In the "good old days" awards were given to pre-registered participants for the oldest walker, the farthest distance traveled to get to an event and for the largest group. Hawley, Minnesota's first club, is the only club still giving these special awards...for which NSTT salutes them!

But walkers participating in NSTT events have a whole new reason for pre-registering. With our move to using local crafts as awards, we are dealing with many different sizes and weights of the awards, which makes it extremely difficult, in many cases, to mail awards that have to be reordered after an event.

In some cases the production of additional awards takes a bit more time because each award is hand made and not dependent on speedy machine reproductions.

So! If you don't want the hassle of making special arrangements to pick up an event award, or pay for costly mailing charges, you would be wise to pre-register! This will ensure that we have an adequate number of awards available at the event for everyone who wants one.

Click here to download the preregistration form that you can use to pre-register for NSTT events. Make copies of it if you don't want to pre-register for all events at one time. Send it in with a check covering the cost of the awards you are ordering. We'll make sure there's one waiting for you at the event!

Don't feed the animals - feed the walkers!

Do you work up an appetite walking up and down those park trails? NSTT will offer food at all the park events this year... it may vary, but you can count on the swinging tripod grill being at most of the events! So stop and have a bite to eat, visit with your walking friends and help support NSTT activities in the state parks.

We will ask you to make a "donation" to cover the cost of providing refreshments for you at our events! So make sure you carry a few extra bucks along so you can take a load off your feet and replace some of those calories you wore off!

Our state parks present us with many photo opportunities...bring your camera along and capture a special vista, plant, animal or walker. Submit your favorites to NSTT for its quarterly newsletter or Web site!

When you enjoy an NSTT event in the state parks, please, "take only pictures, leave only footprints."

Group Camp has become a tradition with state park folkssport events! Each year we hope to offer you one or more chances to camp out together in a state park during our events.

Group Camps consist of a rustic campground which includes running water, vault toilets, and fire rings. Shower facilities are available at the regular campground. There's room for the kids to play, evenings around a real camp fire and going to sleep with the sounds and smells of nature all around you.

Folks...this is the most economical lodging ANYWHERE. Space is limited, so you'll want to sign up quickly! Check the Events section for current details.

If you're not a camper, come around and visit us on Saturday evenings and enjoy the campfire hospitality with us before you go to sleep in your stuffy motel room! We talk, laugh, roast marshmallows and eat...and we have fun together!
