We do not have any litters planned
Our dream of having puppies has been put on hold. Puff
developed pyometra and had to undergo an emergency spay. There are therapies
available to preserve the uterus, but they are painful and are not without
risk to the bitches life. They are also more successful when the pyometra
is in early stages--which Puff's was not. We chose surgery which was less
risky considering her condition. She has made a full recovery and we are
hoping to have her with us for years to come. dee dee Andersson in her
book The Mastiff, Aristocratic Guardian calls Pyometra a "life-threatening
condition that is widely recognized as one of the most serious and dreaded
infections that can occur in a valuable breeding bitch." There is
excellent information about this condition available at Mastiff
Breeder Information (Be aware that the accompanying photographs are
not for the squeamish.)
