Work-Related Blogs and Politics.

There are many HR and other related blogs out there. I came across one called Radiant Veracity on which the author wrote a very interesting post about the boss from hell titled Evil Boss Lady. It is very funny and worth reading.

Radiant Veracity is written by Stephanie A. Lloyd who is the owner of Calibre Search Group in Atlanta, Georgia. She also writes for The Examiner, a Division of Clarity Media Group. Her bio states that she authors a highly-regarded career and job search advice column for 70 major markets nationwide.

With all this in mind I thought reading her blog might give me some insight as to how hiring folks think. I felt like I was "smacked along side the head" by her following post, Quitting Mid-Term, (here's a PDF of the original post) in which she bashes George Bush (he is, in her opinion, an "utter self-serving imbecile"), bashes Sarah Palin, and says the following:

". . . I'm sure there are people who would [vote for Palin] and I really wish I could snatch their ballots right out of their hands because they should not be allowed to vote."

The emphasis is hers. Nice isn't it? Keep in mind this is someone who is posting on her, normally, work-related blog; this is someone who has done corporate recruiting for a living. She even said that she thought about whether she should post about politics or not as it could alienate readers; but that she "felt strongly" about this issue so she had to post it. She said that it would not be "honest" if she didn't. Don't you love how, because they have to be "honest", people enage in bashing others.

Normally, I try to just ignore such garbage. But in this case I am so worked up about this posting of hers because people like her are clearly in the position of hiring. It just galls me that someone who is so ignorant and hateful determines who gets the job and who doesn't.

So, of course, I posted a commment giving my two-sents worth on the topic. It is interesting that she has deleted some of the hateful speech from her post (here's a PDF of the original post) and not posted my comment (as is her right). Ayway here's my opinion:

Yes, you really shouldn't discuss (or blog about) religion, sex, or politics in an area where others don't expect it, as it can alienate others who don't agree. So, keep in mind YOU started this political discussion with your post.

Gee, let's see. Bush helped to change the face of the Middle East with actual elections (that matter!) being held in two Muslim-majority countries in the Middle East - something that has never happened outside of Turkey. Only those who are "under a rock" would think that the current protests in Iran have not been influenced by what has happened next door in Iraq. Terrorism has less places to hide today because of Bush's policies. But, I guess that is all because Bush was a "self-serving imbecile" who wasn't "screwing" with the interns.

As far a Palin goes, the hatred that many on the left have shown that woman is unbelievable. The nasty remarks about her, her lifestyle, her clothes, her accent are bad enough. But for many of those on the left who think that they are better than the rest of us those comments weren't enough. Because Palin, herself, didn't flinch they decide to go after her family. I mean really, what kind of "self-serving imbecile" makes and laughs at jokes about raping an underage girl? What kind of "self-serving imbecile" finds it funny to mock a child because it is less than "perfect"? How many "self-serving imbecile" feminists are really pissed off because Palin made the choice (remember choice? It is what so many are always yammering on about ) to give birth to her baby rather than end its life. I guess "choice" only matters if one happens to choose the "correct" leftist ideology-driven option. And lastly; how many idiots who cannot think mistake Tina Fay's comments for Palin's?

The real problem that many have with Palin is that she is her own woman. Since she doesn't fit into any "category" many on the left don't know how to deal with her; so they resort to name calling and worse.

With her resignation Palin has shown , once again, that she is in control and she is her own woman. Rather than continue to play their silly and unproductive games (none of the charges being investigated against her have stuck and in my opinion won't) she has decided to move on. This will be better for Alaska, Alaskans, and the country. (Her Lieutenant Governor can now get down to the business that Palin was elected to do; but others won't let her - that is to govern the state.) And most importantly, it seems to me that this is best for her, her career, and her family.

As far as there is "no discernable reason" goes; Says who? Just because she didn't explain it the way that the "unbiased" News Media and others on the left demand doesn't mean there aren't valid reasons. See above comment about letting her Lieutenant Governor taking over to do the job. That is real leadership to me. Most intelligent people understand that if you are not able to get the job done (for whatever reason) then the right thing to do is to step aside. If she had given any more detail the "unbiased" News Media would have put their spin on it anyway. So, I don't see her career as being over; I think it is only just beginning. I hope to vote for her again.

I will say this; at least you got ONE thing right. When you blog about politics you will alienate others. For I now see your post about Evil Boss Lady (the first of your posts that I read and the reason I kept coming back) in a new light. Now, I wonder who was the real "evil" one.

I'll just finish this comment with - I don't drink the kool-aid of Obamanation; So I can still think straight.

Harsh? Well, I resent it when someone so politically biased thinks that their worldview is the only correct way to think and that it is okay to "share" it in a "work setting." And, I'll say it again - It just galls me that someone who is so ignorant and hateful determines who gets the job and who doesn't.

Oh, and I also get a little miffed when someone says that I should not be allowed to vote!
