Fountain Pen Specialty Nibs

"The existing backlog is currently beyond the capacity to provide you with a reasonable turnaround time" will be posted to this web page if a serious backlog develops (anything more than 3 months).

Backlog reached 3 weeks over the limit due to a single pen dealer as of August 18th - the moment the backlog is worked off this offer will likely be renewed (people have been amazingly polite and it has been a pleasure!).

It is being offered so that at least some people out in pendom will have knowledge that such nibs are still possible and available now and then at a reasonable cost to the collector.   Recently I was told that some nibs that are "finished" must be in the $300+ range to be "viable".  Any price below is wholesale and assumes you know how to polish and  shape your own nib tip to your personal preference.  Otherwise add $10 each for finishing and be as specific as possible as to how you write and how you desire the line to form upon the page.

Basic nib retipping:

0.5 mm to 1 mm    $25
1 mm to 2.5 mm    $35
2.5 mm to 3.5mm     $45
3.5mm to 6mm       $65 (these generally require significant amounts of additional gold content, thus the higher final cost)
6mm +  $85

Music nibs:

3 tined small nibs (Parker 51 and 61)  $45

Flex gold alloy small nibs (Parker 51 and 61, please note that if your nib is UK or Australian in origin and has existing flex...the final nib will have the most dramatic flex ability...whereas rigid nibs will not be as dramatic - though can be reformed with flex 14K gold alloys and attain more moderate flexing ability)  $70

Conventional 3 tined music nibs: $65

4 tined: $75

Custom nibs (do not ask for a fine! such nibs are generally forced by the laws of physics to at least be 2mm for structural integrity!!):

Sanskrit style harpoon tip: $75

ventless/slitless 3 tined (top tine is solid, under tines are slit forming a "T" shaped cut or a more restrictive "U" shaped cut that hugs the lower tines into continuous alignment though reduces the possible side writing abilith of the nib)  $85

arrow (right and left obliques with conventional center) $115

spear (5 different point widths, required the formation of a custom 4 spoon feed of ebonite, by design it is not possible for this nib to flex)  $135

4 tined (2 top, 2 base) $85   (similar to the $650-$1,200 Japanese variety - yet not identical - merely similar, though also made for any non-inlay gold nib of your choice)

...anything else - if it does not violate the laws of physics or conflict with the properties of the metals involved...you will not find more options (or 1998 gold prices) anywhere else, so describe it, sketch it...and  let me know!  ;-)

Images of certain specialty nibs (in order of  appearance: raw unfinished extra broad single slit and single layer highlighter Pelikan nibs (oblique nibs of this width have the platinum group metal tips formed at an angle - it is not viable when ground at an angle as the sides would no longer have even tips and may even wear to the gold...far better to have the tip itself at the angle desired), Parker 51 aerometric with 3 tined music flex XXBB (finished), Parker 51 "harpoon" sanskrit nib (finished), rainbow gold metal over feed multi-tined Parker 75 music highlighter nib (custom prototype), lastly Parker 51 XXXBB 3 tined music nib rigid (finished).
