Here are my recommendations for design related books that I've bought. If you
can't find them at your local book store or library, I have linked them to
Amazon.com (for European visitors I've linked some of the books to Amazon.co.uk.)
They're reliable, generally less expensive, and they sometimes even have used examples. There is finally a how-to car design book, and it's really up to date.

| How to Design Cars Like a Pro
Finally, the book you've been asking for. Not really so much a "how to" book, although there is a section with step by step instructions. Gives a pretty accurate overview of the auto design profession with interviews and profiles of designers and cars. A bit "euro-centric" since it's an English publisher. UK link |

| | Oblagon:
Concepts of Syd Mead- Beautiful illustrations done by the
well known futurist/designer of Bladerunner fame. I don't even
consider myself a sci-fi fan, but had to get this book.

| Karim Rashid: I want to change the world
-Ignore the obnoxious title. This book is a must have. Karim Rashid is one of the designers of the moment and I'm a big fan of his work. Its filled with large color photos of his work, not only computer images like the Marc Newson book. UK link

| Marc Newson- I bought this book filled with digital images of his work. Ford commisioned him to do a showcar, which became the (controversial) 021C. Very expensive, very nice, very rare. Get it if you can. UK link | | |

| Portfolio Design - Now in its second edition. The only book I've found about designing your portfolio. A well designed portfolio will give you a competitve edge. It's geared towards architecture, but it's still quite useful
for industrial designers. UK link |

| | Industrial
Design: Reflection of a Century- A must have for all industrial
designers. A beautiful book offering a thorough (432 pages) history
of industrial design and its role in society. Very nice to look
at, but also a good read. The mother of all coffee table books.
Well worth your hard earned cash. (unfortunately no longer in stock...)UK link |
