DANCING
IN THE SUMMER RAIN
There was a time in our life
When we would dance all night
But that was long ago and far away.
Now time and distance stands between us,
There are those who can’t remember they had seen us
But don’t you know those memories
are locked
inside my mind
For all of time
Do you remember?
Hanging out on the overpass watching the cars
Lying out in a field looking up at the stars.
Swinging on a swing down at the park
By the light of the moon and
in the cover of dark.
With our lives out in front our dreams were leading the way
Laughing at life in that little café.
We’d whisper good night then we’d slip away
Just before a summer rain.
And there we were beneath the willow trees,
making love on a summer breeze.
I couldn’t hold you tighter if I tried,
we couldn’t hold back what we felt inside.
I started to laugh when the raindrops came;
you got up singing some refrain
We were wet and muddy
but how could I complain watching you
Dancing in the summer rain.
Now I’m still holding on to those memories,
sometimes I go back to those willow trees
And hope some night I find you there
with a song in your heart and rain in the air.
I’d tell you how much I loved you then,
and if I had the chance I’d do it all again.
Every tender kiss and tear the same,
just to see you, and to be with you
Dancing in the summer rain.
Dancing in the summer rain,
laughing and splashing and shaking our thing.
Nothing ever felt so right
than dancing with you on a warm summer night.
Dancing to the nighttime hit parade,
God bless that radio how it played.
And all those summers we had it made
dancing in the summer rain.
Ooh, ooh, ooh, dancing
in the summer rain!
