Factoids

*
Uniformed, Balanced Troop
We are a uniformed troop, comprised of Scouts of every age, 11 to 17, and every rank.  Annual Scout dues are $60.  A "High Adventure" account is maintained for each Scout, into which the Scout's fundraising profits are deposited.  Fundraising includes the Indian Nations Council Popcorn Campaign, holiday wreaths and candles, "peelers" (discount restaurant stickers), candy, spghetti suppers, recycling -- and more!
*
Completely Outfitted
Troop 999 owns and maintains Eureka Timberline tents, dining flys, cooking gear, two (2) Troop trailers, twelve (12) canoes (plus canoe trailers), and its own carefully maintained rifles and shotguns.  Scouts supply their own packs, sleeping gear and cooking utensils... and PMA (Positive Mental Attitude)!
*
Patrols
Troop 999 has from four to six active Patrols (depends upon enrollment, which changes from year to year), plus Troop Junior Leadership coordinated by an active Patrol Leader's Council.
*
Junior Leader Training
Conducted early in each term of officers.  Officers are elected twice a year.
*
Annual Planning
Troop Operations Workshop (T.O.W.) is part of our first campout each year (January).  T.O.W. provides all Troop members an opportunity to contribute to the annual plan -- where to go, what to do.
*
Advanced Junior Leader Training
Our Junior Leaders are encouraged to participate in Indian Nations Council's PineTree Training.  Several our our Scouts have attended the Philmont National Junior Leader Instructor Camp.
*
Adult Participation & Support
Troop 999 asks that at least one parent from each Scout family become a registered leader (attend Basic Scout Leader Training).  Many of our adult leaders have earned Wood Badge; many are certified in CPR, First Aid, SCUBA, Leave No Trace, Shooting Sports, Climbing & Rappeling, and Aquatics -- which broadens the scope of what we can do and where we can camp.  Most of our Merit Badge counselors are Troop 999 adult members.
*
Order of the Arrow
Troop 999 Arrowmen and adults are members of Ta Tsu Hwa Lodge #138.
*
Arrow of Light
Cub Packs and Webelos leaders note!  Our superb team handles AOL ceremonies with skill and solemnity.  Information/scheduling upon request.

Troop 999 Activity Highlights
Troop 999 has destination-camped in 13 states, plus High Adventure treks to Philmont Scout Ranch, New Mexico (2003); the Grand Tetons, Wyoming (2003); and the Atikokan Wilderness Canoe Trek, Ontario, Canada (2001).  Our 2002 Summer Camp was in Custer, South Dakota, at Medicine Mountain Scout Ranch.
We are honored to serve as co-sponsor, along with the Elks State Major Projects, of the annual special needs "Special Camporee".
Our Troop is a NRA Junior Rifle Club, and as such we conduct .22 rifle, muzzle-loading rifle, and shotgun activities.  Our Shooting Sports counselors are experienced and fully-certified.
Troop 999 is a National Archery Association JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) Club.  We feature archery in many of our programmed activities.
Our annual schedule of festivities includes the Family Thanksgiving Feast, Courts of Honor, Eagle Courts, and frequent family events.
We focus on service.  Our service projects include the annual Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot, ceremonial openings and closings for Elks-sponsored events, the Elks Flag Day (Flag Retirement) Ceremony, and the Floral Haven Memorial Day Flag Retreat.
