Nick Arvin grew up in Michigan, and he earned degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan and Stanford. For several years he worked in product development at Ford Motor Company, and more recently he has been involved in forensic engineering and accident reconstruction. Arvin is also a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop and the author of two books: In the Electric Eden: Stories and Articles of War, a novel which was named one of the Books of Year by Esquire magazine. His short fiction has appeared in The New Yorker, and his work has been awarded the Michener Fellowship, the Rosenthal Foundation Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the Boyd Award from the American Library Association. He lives in Denver, Colorado, where he is on the faculty of the Lighthouse Writers Workshop.
