Company A, 125th Ohio V.I. Re-enactors in Camp

It was the heroic conduct of the 125th Ohio during the entire battle of Chickamauga but is specially on the 20th that induced me to give the regiment the sobriquet - "Opdycke Tigers"
You may make any reference to me you may wish to aid you in securing the inscription you desire.

Truly your friend
and comrade
Th. A. Wood

Thanks to David Mercado for assistance in decyphering the script.

Letter from Gen. Thomas A. Wood to Charles T. Clark to verify that the nickname was bestowed on the 125th Ohio for their actions at Chickamauga and not to Opdycke's Brigade for actions at Franklin as some histories claim. Thus, only the 125th could rightfully claim title to the name.

To Descendants of Members of the 125th:

Through this page, I have been contacted by some descendents of those that served with the Opdycke Tigers. I am attempting to compile a directory of descendents so that they might communicate with each other and share information or ask questions. I will also, from time to time, be posting information that might be of interest to descendents.

The American Civil War was an episode in history which defined us as a nation. Many brave men fought and died for what they belived, both from the north and the south. Although this page is dedicated to a Union regiment, we must not forget those in gray that fought just as bravely and sacraficed much for their convictions. To honor them, click on the following arrow.
